What are the best things to do in Chaweng at night?
Watch the fire show, go to a beach party, then walk the sand. Chaweng is the busiest beach on Koh Samui after dark. The beach faces east over the Gulf of Thailand, so the sun sets behind the island and the sand cools early.
We run ARKbar Beach Club on Chaweng Beach, Koh Samui, so this guide starts from our own sand and gives the night in order. Entry to ARKbar is free. From 8PM the fire show on Chaweng Beach needs no ticket and no booking, and neither does the beach party. You pay only for what you eat and drink.

6PM: sunset and a first drink
The sun sets between 5:55 PM and 6:45 PM on Koh Samui across the year, according to sunrise-sunset.org. In November it is about 5:57 PM. Chaweng faces east, so you do not watch the sun go into the sea. You watch the sky over the bay turn from gold to dark blue while the beach empties of day visitors.
This is the quiet hour. Our daytime pool party runs 2PM to 7PM every day, so you can swim, stay for sunset and move straight into the evening without leaving the beach.
7PM: eat before the music starts
Eat first. From 8PM the beach is busy with the show and the party, and tables with a view fill early. Our beach club restaurant is open from 10AM to 2AM, and ARKbar HIP Restaurant on the street side is open from 7AM to 2AM, with the kitchen closing at 1AM.
If you want a table on the sand for the night, book online. Night tables close for online booking at 3PM. After that, tables are walk-in.
8PM: the fire show on the beach
Free entry, no ticket and no booking: a new show every hour from 8PM to midnight. It is on the sand at ARKbar on Chaweng Beach, and it is weather permitting. You do not need a table.

- When to come: any hour. Each hour is a new show, so a late arrival misses nothing for long.

8PM to 2AM: the beach party
The beach party starts at the same time as the first show and runs to 2AM, with a live DJ every day. Entry is free. A table is the way to be sure of a seat, and you can book one through our button below.

11PM to midnight: the last show, and what comes after
The last fire show starts at 11PM and is done by midnight. The beach party carries on to 2AM. When it ends, Chaweng Beach Road behind the beach is still awake. On site we have a shopping avenue open from 4PM to 2AM. Each shop sets its own hours inside that window, so not every unit is open all night.
The night in order
- 6PM: sunset and a first drink, or a swim before the pool party ends at 7PM.
- 7PM: dinner, before the beach fills up.
- 8PM: the first fire show, and the beach party opens.
- 9PM and 10PM: a new fire show each hour. Come and go as you like.
- 11PM: the last show, done by midnight.
- 2AM: the beach party ends. Walk, or book a ride home.
If you are not drinking
The fire show needs no ticket. The sand costs nothing, so a night here does not have to be a bar crawl. Walk the beach, watch a show, have dinner and go home. Children are welcome in the day. After 9PM we do not admit guests under 18.
Getting home safely
- Walk if you are staying close. Chaweng Beach Road stays busy late.
- Book a ride. Grab lists Koh Samui as a service area. Book from the road, not the sand, so the driver can find you.
- Agree the fare first if you take a local taxi.
- Stay on site. ARKbar Beach Resort is part of the beach club, so your room is a walk from the sand. Samui Airport is about 10 minutes away by car.
- If something goes wrong, the Tourist Police hotline is 1155, answered 24 hours a day with interpreters, according to Pattaya Mail.
